Rebecca Houghton is a writer of memoir and fiction and passionate advocate of women’s rights.
Born in England, she holds a B.A. in English literature from the University of East Anglia and emigrated to the United States in 2003. She’s published work on food, feminism, and family with Bitch Media, Ravishly,
Role Reboot, and many more.
Now based in Seattle, Rebecca lives with her spouse and their Golden Retriever, Gaby, who is an ardent fan of Seattle’s fire station 2 and inspiration for Rebecca’s debut children’s book Gaby and the Big Red Firedog.
When she’s not walking Gaby, Rebecca speaks and testifies, sharing her story as a domestic violence survivor, in support of other survivors and to progress gender equity. She lives with OCD and bi-polar type 2, as well as PTSD from her abusive marriage.
Rebecca says of her of writing:
“I’ve always been a scribbler of thoughts and notes and started writing fiction and poetry when I was ten years old. After leaving my abusive husband of eight years in 2010, I realized that writing had not just the potential to be cathartic and help me process that experience, but also provided an opportunity to speak up and in doing so, help change our world for the better.”
